Alumni Kaleidoscope: Benny Hui - BEng(CS)
Benny began his entrepreneurial journey at the age of twenty, when he founded his first HR start-up with the support of HKUST. He then spent several years honing his sales skills and accumulating in-depth knowledge in the finance / insurance sector—achieving Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) in the first year of his career—before taking up the role of Executive Director for a Hong Kong-listed company, where he was responsible for transforming the core business to capitalize on new opportunities by merger and acquisitions.
Two years later, Benny's career took him to Singapore where he was the General Manager of a big data start-up focusing on real estate and co-founded Hong Kong Real Estate Exchange (HRX) which was later acquired by a Singapore listed company. Benny then re-located back to Hong Kong and turned his sights to the real estate arena there, joining real estate tech start-up Spacious as its COO, where he led the company from a relatively unknown platform into a leading real estate portal in Hong Kong and expanded Spacious' business to Taipei, Shanghai, and Shenzhen.
In 2018, Benny joined OKAY.com as Business Development Director to continue his journey in real estate tech, where he is responsible for the expansion of the company's brand and agent presence in the market.
OKAY.com is a tech-equipped real estate agency dedicated to providing the best home searching experience to clients. Okay.com transformed the game of the industry with its innovative business model, including building proprietary mobile technology for agents and having the most accurate database in the market. This unique advantage helped OKAY.com grow from 5 to 100 agents since its inception.
Outside of his work, Benny is also a strong supporter of HKUST. He previously served as a Standing Committee Member of the HKUST Convocation from 2011-2013. He was a mentor for the HKUST REDbird program, and returned to campus as a guest speaker to share his career story with students. In 2018, Benny is helping to give HKUST students a boost in their professional development by joining the HeadStart program as a mentor and corporate sponsor. His contributions and achievements won him a place in the 4th Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection, and a Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) 50th Distinguished Salesperson Award. He is also widely recognized as a pioneer in real estate technology (RE Tech) and was invited to be a speaker in MIPIM Asia.
