These Technologies & Entrepreneurship funding initiatives supported by different funding sponsors (HKUST, UGC, Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), external funding sponsors/donors) are administered by OKT, TTC, EC, and RDC(HK), depending on the nature of initiatives, target groups, and objectives of different funding initiatives.

ABOUT US
Office of Knowledge Transfer

OKT assists AVP-KT on KT strategic planning, implementation of KT missions, governance of KT operations, and overseeing TTC, RDC(HK) and EC. It coordinates between Industry and HKUST’s Schools and IPO, Research Institutes and KT units, to nurture innovation and entrepreneurship in our spirit. It also optimizes translational research opportunities to propel Hong Kong and the region to innovate, with a focus on operating three Joint Research Units, namely HKUST-Bright Dream Robotics Joint Research Institute (HBJRI), HKUST-Kaisa Joint Research Institute (HKJRI), & HKUST Collaborative Innovation Center (HCIC), and manages interdisciplinary projects such as the Autonomous Vehicle (AV) trial and the Burger Robot Joint.

Technology Transfer Center

TTC serves as a bridge between HKUST research community and industry to bring University’s research output into new products and services. It identifies commercial potential from inventions, formulates intellectual properties (IP) to motivate industry to invest into HKUST technologies, incubates technologies by managing various funding programs, and supports University-Industry Collaboration and start-up companies.

Entrepreneurship Center

EC cultivates students’ entrepreneurial spirit by providing non-credit bearing experiential learning. EC organizes workshops, seminars, entrepreneurship programs and competitions, manages seed funds disbursement, offers student advising, and fills up gaps between student entrepreneurs and faculty with technologies. It also collaborates with key partners within and outside HKUST, including HKUST’s Mainland platforms to recognize and award entrepreneurial potentials.

HKUST R and D Corporation Limited

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology R and D Corporation Limited (RDC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST or the University). Since our inception in 1992, we have been serving as the vehicle for commercialization and exploitation of the research conducted at HKUST. We provide contractual, financial, and administrative support for the University’s technology transfer, collaborative research and consulting activities with the industry.

The Associate Vice-President for Knowledge Transfer (AVP-KT) leads the KT units of Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT), Technology Transfer Center (TTC), Entrepreneurship Center (EC), and HKUST R and D Corporation Ltd. (RDC(HK)) for planning, implementing, coordinating, and governing innovation and technology endeavours for HKUST. The main roles and responsibilities of each KT unit are given below:
